London: Notting Hill and Portobello Road (Shopping)

Opening Hours: Daily from 9:00 to 17:00. The main market is on Saturdays.
Nearest Stations: Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Park and Notting Hill Gate

Situated in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Notting Hill is a mostly residential district in London. It is well known for hosting the annual Notting Hill Carnival, and the weekly Portobello Road Market. It is one of London’s most affluent areas.

Notting Hill is now globally known as an attractive area with restaurants, large Victorian townhouses and high-end shopping. This was not the case before the early 1980s, when rents in the area were relatively cheap.

Notting Hill is home to Portobello Market (on Portobello Road), a street market which is divided up into sections.

You will find antiques, fruit and veg, new goods, clothes and fashion, and second hand items sold at the market. The antiques are undoubtedly what the market is most famous for.

The market takes place on Saturdays and starts to get busy from 9:00 onwards, and starts winding down between 17:00 and 19:00. Some trading at this market does take place on other days of the week, mostly from the permanent shop fronts, but Saturday is the day to come.
