The Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street, also known as the walkie-talkie due to its peculiar shape, has to be one of the most impressive free things to do in London. It is one of our favourite places to visit whatever time of the year.

The Sky Garden is a viewing gallery 35 floors above central London, with a huge inside area filled with plants. It is much more spacious than The Shard across the road, and also includes a small outside area. There’s also the added advantage that you can get photos of The Shard itself, and you are closer to the city including the Tower of London and St. Paul’s.

The overall view, however, is not quite as impressive – whereas at The Shard you get the feeling of being on top of the world, it is more a sense of being just ‘high up’ here.

The Sky Garden is not just a viewing gallery, however, with three food and drink venues – Sky Pod Bar, Darwin Brasserie and Fenchurch Restaurant. Here you can dine, or enjoy a drink, and watch the world go by.

Tickets are limited to the gallery and are available to be booked three weeks in advance on the website. During peak periods, these dates sell out very quickly. You must bring a valid form of ID to enter Sky Garden.
