The West End area of London has a fantastic variety of culinary delights from Italian to Chinese, Japanese to British, and American to Indian.
Being the West End, this area is filled with both Londoners and visitors to the city, meaning that there are many places in the area that we would consider ‘tourist traps’ with high prices and sub-par food, so check restaurant review websites before choosing where to eat.
Having said that, the West End does contain some of the best places to eat in the whole city too, so it is well worth considering eating here. There are buffets, table-service and fast food places in every direction you look, and prices on the whole are competitive as restaurants want to attract theatre-goers and evening crowds.
1. Hawkmoor Air Street

This upscale Seafood and Steak restaurant has become very ‘on trend’ over the last few years. They serve some of the best cuts of steak we have ever eaten. Perhaps surprisingly for a place that serves steaks, the seafood here is delicious too. Prices are on the slightly higher end but this is meant to be a premium experience.
Seafood is priced at £20 to £48 for a whole fish, with Turbot priced at £13 per 100g, and the delicious Dartmouth Lobster at £5 per 100g. Steaks are between £18.50 and £35, and vary in size from 300g to 400g. Large cuts are priced at £8.25 to £13 per 100g, and start at 500g in size. A Sunday roast option is available for £20. We find the express menu to be a particularly good deal at £25 for two courses, and £28 for three. It is available Monday to Saturday all day except 18:30 to 22:00.
This particular location is just seconds from Piccadilly Circus. Other Hawksmoor London locations include: Seven Dials (in Covent Garden), Guildhall and Spitalfields (in The City), and Knightsbridge. Reservations are accepted and recommended.
2. Misato

Japanese food just steps away from Chinatown? That’s right! Misato is one of the most affordable quality meals in central London in our opinion. With 8-piece mixed sashimi sets at £7.50, sushi pieces are £1 each, and maki costs even less; you can have a decent meal here for under £15 per person. Bento boxes are £8.50, and they also serve light meals and rice dishes at £5 to £8 a pop. Even the beers are under £3.
With good quality food, and large portions, at an affordable price, Misato is great spot to dine at.
There may be waits to get in at peak periods as this is a popular place and is quite small. Misato does not currently have its own dedicated website, and does not accept reservations.
3. Yauatcha

Serving some of the best contemporary Cantonese food in London, and located outside the Chinatown area, Yauatcha offers upscale dining. A la Carte prices vary wildly, from the £9.20 egg fried rice to the £38 Lobster vermicelli pot. Lunch and dinner “signature” menus are also available for £40 and £45 per person respectively, with a minimum of two people dining.
The service is attentive and the interior is simple but elegant. The cake selection is to die for. Reservations are accepted and recommended.
4. Savoir Faire

With London’s French population booming and standing at over 66,000 and counting, it’s no surprise to find quality French fare in the city. Savoir Faire is located on the edge of the West End, less than a 2-minute walk from The British Museum.
Unique to Savoir Faire is the fact that everything is prepared fresh on the premises – from the mains, to the bread, the sauces and even the dessert.
A two-course set lunch menu is priced at £14.90. The a la carte lunch menu includes salads, burgers, omelets and sandwiches – all priced at £5 to £10. Muscles, beef and lamb are priced between £7 and £18.
A two-course dinner menu is available for £23.90, with a vegetarian menu available at £14.90. Main courses such as Rib Eye Steak, Fillet of Sea Bass and Duck Margaret are all £18 a la Carte at dinner.
All meals include a basket of fresh bread, as is customary in France, and in our opinion the food is very affordably priced and of excellent quality. Reservations are accepted.
5. Quattro Passi

This upscale Italian restaurant boasts lavish interiors, a signature menu and a Michelin-Starred Head Chef, Antonio Mellino.
Appetizers/antipasti range from £12 to £20. Pasta dishes are £16 to £22, and other mains such as fish and meat are £25 to £35. A “business lunch” offer is available Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 15:00, with two courses priced at £26, and three courses at £34.
Prices are on the higher side but we feel the experience, service and taste merit this. Reservations are accepted and recommended.
