London: The Southbank Neighbourhood Guide

London: The Southbank Neighbourhood Guide

The Southbank area that we are describing here is actually quite a small strip of land on the south side of the river Thames, opposite Westminster and Embankment.

This is a very popular area with visitors, especially since the year 2000 when the London Eye opened. Merlin Entertainments, operator of the Eye, has capitalised on its success by opening several attractions here. We have also included The Imperial War Museum in this area, although it is a 10 to 15-minute walk away.

Top Tip: The London Eye, London Dungeon, London Aquarium, Shrek’s Adventure and Madame Tussauds are all attractions operated by Merlin Entertainments. All of these, except Madame Tussauds, are located in the same building on the South Bank. Visit the ticket desk at any of these, or online, and consider the multi-attraction tickets on sale here. These can offer considerable savings.
