The nation’s main war memorial, The Cenotaph is planted in the middle of the road in Whitehall. Flags of the United Kingdom are placed around the memorial. 
This is also where the monarch and other senior members of the royal family, as well as politicians, lay wreaths of flowers every year in a large ceremony on Remembrance Sunday (the second Sunday in November).
