Every major city has a Chinatown and London’s is located just two minutes’ walk away from the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly Circus. As soon as you enter Chinatown, you are likely to encounter one of two situations depending on the time of day – either a very peaceful space, or a bustling atmosphere. As far as food is concerned, there is something for everyone and for every price range. Many places here are cash only so be sure to ask before sitting down to eat in a restaurant, or in shops.

This is a small Chinatown unlike some other cities and, although it is cute, we wouldn’t go out of our way to go here deliberately unless you fancy a bit of Chinese food.

London’s Chinese New Year celebrations are the largest outside Asia, with parades, performances and fireworks.  At 10:00 a large lion parade makes its way from Trafalgar Square to Chinatown; from 12:00 onwards stage performances are held; and at 17:20 the grand finale begins as dancers and acrobats take to the stage, and pyrotechnics illuminate Nelson’s Column.

To this day, the final Test match of the English season is traditionally played here. The Oval has a seating capacity of 23,500. The Oval was also the location of the first ever international football match in 1870 between England and Scotland. Tours of the Oval are available. During the tour you will step foot in the players’ dressing rooms, see where the players train, enter the press box, and access the Corinthian roof terrace with its stunning views of London.
