London: Good Restaurants in the London Bridge/Southwark/Borough area

London: Good Restaurants in the London Bridge/Borough area

1. Vapiano

Source: Better Bankside
Nearest Stations: Southwark and London Bridge
Address: 90b Southwark Street, London, SE1 0FD
Opening Hours: Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 23:00, Sunday from 11:00 to 22:00.
Phone: 0207 593 2010

Vapiano is probably our favourite ‘budget eat’ in central London.

Choose your seat wherever you want. Then, go to one of the stations to order your food. You can choose from pizza, pasta or salads – your food will be prepared fresh in front of you, to your specification in minutes, and you take it away there and then. For pizzas you are given a pager for when your food is ready.

This place is part fresh fast food, part canteen, but with a restaurant-like quality and atmosphere. It might not be for everyone, but we love it. Portions are large, the meals are tasty, and prices are fair – the perfect combination. Pastas, risotto and pizzas run at £7 to £10.50 for a meal. Salads are priced between £5 and £10.

Our only qualm is that the waits for pasta can be long, as everything is cooked to specification from scratch. Vapiano has two more restaurants in London: on Wardour Street in Soho, and Great Portland Street by Oxford Circus station. No reservations.

You have read The View from The Shard a few pages back. Now, have lunch or dinner with with a view at Aqua Shard. Food is pricey, but the view, service and the delicious meal make it all worth it.

The breakfast set menu is priced at £29 per person. Lunch is £31 for two courses, or £34 for three. Afternoon tea is £42, adding champagne is about £20 extra. Dinner is served a la Carte with mains from £29 to £47, with some more affordable vegetarian options.

The views, as you can imagine, cannot be beaten. Reservations are accepted and highly recommended.

3. José Pizzaro Tapas

Nearest Stations: London Bridge and Borough
Address: 104 Bermondsey Street, London, SE1 3UB

This pricey Spanish location features mouth-watering dishes, and food is freshly sourced from the market, meaning that the menu really does change daily.

Seating is limited, so turn up early for a spot. Reservations are not accepted.
